We are often asked about how we go about putting our travel plans together and what websites and resources we use. We’ve personally used all the products and services listed below so can happily recommend them to you. If you choose to make a purchase via one of the links on this page, you will be supporting this blog at no extra cost to yourself. We appreciate that.
Here are our favourite travel resources.

Flights and Travel Options
Flights
For international and domestic flights we use Skyscanner, and utilise the monthly search option if our plans are flexible and to get the best fares.
Coach and Bus Travel
We would recommend Flixbus for bus travel throughout Europe between major towns and cities. Very affordable.
For bus travel in the UK, we would suggest BusBud – this compares buses and coaches in the UK, a very useful and again a very cost-effective option.
Trains
For trains in Europe, we recommend RailEurope which has a handy search allowing you to compare journey prices.
For train travel in the UK, we favour Trainline, again with a useful comparison feature.
Combination Travel
The Omio website compares buses, trains and flights between any two destinations, with the prices and travel durations. Very handy.
Another useful resource is 12go which does the same as Omio but with a focus on Asia and Oceania.
Accomodation
For accommodation, we recommend using Booking.com, simply because their booking process is straightforward, the website is easily searchable and often you have free cancellation options which is very handy if plans change.
Insurance
For travel insurance, we use and recommend using Staysure – specialists in over 50’s travel insurance, and we have always found them easy to deal with especially when things went a little crazy and we had to make a claim due to Covid.
